Re: where is the January transfer window thread?
67, as far as I’m concerned he won’t be buying lots of players for a new team, we don’t need those we have a team. What we need is to fill the gaping holes in our squad the bigger clubs have filled and then some. We need 2 forward/striker options, better cover for Cresswell and we are down to our last 2 centre halves. At a push we also need a better option to cover in central midfield so we can actually start resting these players in our decent 1st 11.

The new investor needs to see we are in a catch up situation NOT enhancing an already full squad that they probably had at Sparta.

I just hope this kretinsky bloke is more ambitious than some of our fans . We need a striker a centre half and lingard this window .

Re: where is the January transfer window thread?
Buying in January is always problematic as the long term players you want might not be available

That said we've had 2 years or more to identify a striker so that player SHOULD be lined up .... are they? Dont count on it
Lingard is a no brainer. Unless he is seduced by Newcastle money he should be signed. If he'd rather go to Newcastle then we dont want him.
Id prefer the centre half to be left footed as Zouma, Diop & Dawson all prefer to be on the right. I suspect that wont happen in January.

One for the future might be the 20yo Keane Lewis-Potter (or is it Lewis Keane-Potter) from Hull.
A bit like his fellow former Hull-ite Jarrod Bowen. If you are going to get Championship players you need to move quick before too much hype is attached.

To be honest I think tarkowski has deteriated drastically since we first showed an interest in him.Not sure he'd be a good signing now.

Sven Roeder 6:36 Sun Dec 19
Re: where is the January transfer window thread?
Tarkowski was an option before we got the superior Zouma for less than what Burnley were asking.
If we are getting another centre half it should be a left sided player similar to Ogbonna

We only seem to do any transfer business on the last day so may as well put the transfer thread up on Jan 30th

Well if you're selling something you're not going to start at a 'fair' price are you. Not like they're desperate for the cash is it.

Also Newcastle will probably pay it such is their desperation.

Would love to see us sign Tarkowski and Lingard and possibly bring in Darnell Furlong

I'll bet my left bollock that Lingard won't go to Newcastle even if both clubs agree terms

If Lingard goes to Newcastle it'll be for the money nothing else

Re: where is the January transfer window thread?
Unless someone else shows interes, Lingard's got 3 options:

1. Stay where he is and fight for game time,
2. Come to us,
3 Go to Newcastle.

"1" is probably a non-runner as he already has an advertised price,

"2" Gives him the chance of at least 2 European games and keeps him in the (periphery) vision of the England manager.

"3" is interesting. No doubt that Newcastle can give him a deal worth 2 or 3 times what we could, but where are they going as a club?

They have to win 6 more games than their fellow relegation candidates to get out of the drop zone; that's 6 more than 3 teams - every win for any one of those teams means another win is needed for the Toons.

I can't even see where six wins are going to come from, let alone six MORE wins than three other teams equally struggling for survival (when do they play us?).

If he wants one last stab at football on the international/European stage, we are the obvious choice (of the 3 options I mention). If he wants a big pay day while he's young enough to enjoy it - possibly winding down with a season or two in the States, St. James's Park beckons.

Would lingard be eligible for Europa??

You're probably right, but if we want him from the start of January we'll have to pay over the odds. Otherwise it'll happen on the last day of the window after weeks of back and forth haggling over price.

Re: where is the January transfer window thread?
We can register 3 new players, apparently:

https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/024e-0e9960c4c766-21ef2df7ed44-1000--the-rules-january-transfers/

"As has been the case for a few seasons now, each of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League knockout hopefuls are allowed to register a maximum of three new eligible players. Since 2018/19, however, it no longer matters if those players have already played in the competition for another club, even for another club still in the competition."

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

13 goals in 94 games.

Definitely not what we need.
